Bill Dalton in a critical condition in hospital
Following news earlier today that Napier Mayor Bill Dalton suffered a stroke last night, the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has released a statement on behalf of his family.
“Our husband and father, Mayor Bill Dalton, suffered a stroke yesterday and is in a critical condition in Hawke’s Bay Hospital,” the family say.
“We are with him and we expect his condition to become clearer over the coming days,” they say.
“We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support at this very difficult time. However we ask for privacy, and do not wish to make any further comment at this time.”
Mayor Dalton, previously a stockbroker in Napier, was first elected to Napier City Council in 2007.
He won the mayoralty in 2013 and was re-elected unopposed in 2016.
He had not been planning to stand again when elections are held in October this year.
