Boardriders club digs in for the long ride

The Hawke’s Bay Surfing Community will be land based on Saturday rather than riding the waves, all for a good cause.

The Your Solutions Hawke’s Bay Boardriders Club is aiming to plant 5000 trees and attract over 100 people at Te Awanga’s Outfoxed property. Proceeds will go to a new equipment trailer for the fast growing club as well as much needed funds for the the Hawke’s Bay team to head to Kaikoura for the National Scholastics Competition in October.

Organiser Keri McKenzie says the club is having a huge resurgence of amazing community minded people with regular local and national competitions as well as events in the Environmental and Community Space.

It’s also attracted some significant sponsors including Your Solutions Ltd which is the club’s Platinum Sponsor for the next 4 years.

“One thing the club first focussed on in the beginning of 2019 was how to make the club stick around, longevity and sustainablility and now the club has turned to its WHY of being a non-profit community organistiion platform in the three sectors of Community, Environmental and Surfing Events and Projects and remembering to have fun in the process.

“It’s fantastic to see our numbers increase at local surf comps and we’ve now got a surfing community that’s getting together both in the water but also off it for positive community driven activities.

“We’ve got a big target of 5000 trees to plant on the Neilson property at Te Awanga so we everyone is welcome to come along!

“It won’t be all hard work and no play, as that’s just not the surfing way. We’ll have a BBQ and there’s a DJ too.

We understand Saturday is sport day so just rock up when you can with a spade in hand.

The next fundraising event the club will hold is a Smoothstar Skating event at Te Awanga Hall - $10 for an hour on August 23. Food will be available for purchase.  Bookings essential, open to all ages.

Keri says the next local competition is Club Round 3 On September 6 or 13 depending on swell.  Learners Division is up and running and we welcome all levels as this is a family day out at the beach with food for purchase and all round good vibes.

Other new Premium Sponsors this year include Wilsigns, Boardzone Napier, Outfoxed, Finsol, Three Wise Birds, Tim Wynne-Lewis - Bayleys Havelock, Tom Allan Photography with only one space left for the right person.  These sponsors have signed on for the nexr two years solidifying the club in an epic space of creativeness and support.

The boardriders also wants to acknowledge all the other supporters that help the club out and these will all appear on the boardriders website created by Tracta Napier in September.  www.hbboardriders.co.nz
