Napier data dashboard makes award finals

A custom-made data dashboard that describes Napier’s economic and social wellbeing has gained a place in the ALGIM Awards finals for Digital Project of the Year.

The dashboard, known as The Pulse of Napier, was initiated as part of Council’s Pandemic Recovery Plan, to continually monitor the wellbeing of Napier as it recovered from the 2020 lockdown. The Pulse provides a huge range of Napier-specific social, economic and environmental measures.

Napier City Council Economic Development Manager Bill Roberts says The Pulse is there to help any business or organisation, not just Council.

“We’ve made it freely available to the community. Giving everyone access to the data will help Napier businesses and organisations to make decisions that are based on data, not guesswork.”

The Pulse includes information such as housing deprivation and affordability, eftpos data, pedestrian and cycling activity, mental wellbeing, business resilience, crime rates, crime locations and benefit claimant numbers.

The ALGIM Digital Project of the Year winner will be announced in March next year. ALGIM is the Association of Local Government Information Management. Its annual awards recognise excellence and innovative use of technology in the local government sector.
