Diver drowns off Waipatiki Beach
A man drowned following a diving incident off Waipatiki Beach, north of Napier, yesterday afternoon.
Police said they received a report about 1.40pm that a diver had gone missing in the water off the beach.
A search and rescue operation, involving the Coastguard, was launched and the man's body was located by helicopter at around 2:40pm.
Police said the death has been referred to the coroner.
