Flaxmere injuries ‘some of the most severe seen on a child in 30 years of policing’

A senior detective says the injuries sustained by a 4-year-old Flaxmere boy last month rate among the severe he’s seen on a child during his 30 years as a police officer.

Detective Inspector Mike Foster made the comment as police make another appeal for information as they continue their inquiries into the critical injuries sustained by the boy in Ramsey Crescent on January 29.

The boy remains in a serious condition in a ward in Starship Hospital, and is likely to be severely disabled and brain damaged if he survives.

Police have been speaking to a number of people in relation to the boy’s injuries, but are asking anyone else who may be able to help, to come forward.

“We would urge people to do the right thing by this child and help us work out exactly what’s happened,” Detective Inspector Foster says.

“Please let us know anything that may help, no matter how small.”

Information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or you can call Hawke’s Bay CIB on (06) 873 0524.
