Taradale Women's Federation Cup footballers draw opener

Taradale's Women 's Federation Cup football team drew their first game of the season 2-all against Masey at Taradale Park today.

In hot conditions, Taradale took an early lead with a superb finish from Hollie Gee. The match was an even tussle from then on and Massey soon had an equaliser to tie the score and it remained 1-all until the interval.

The see-saw affair continued in the second half with both teams creating quality chances. Massey took a 2-1 lead after they were awarded a penalty following a Taradale hand ball in the box.

The Aleesha Heywood (pictured above)-coached Taradale side tied the score at 2-all when a brilliant through ball from Jess Gates found Cara O'Neill racing down the left flank. O'Neill calmly slotted the ball past the Massey keeper.

Massey went back on attack and were unlucky not to score when the keeper was beaten but the ball was cleared off the line by Taradale's player of the day Charlotte Cameron.

Taradale officials were rapt with the crowd which turned out to watch the entertaining clash.
