Former Napier City Council CEO Neil Taylor returning to his old job

The former head of Napier City Council, Neil Taylor, has been appointed the council’s acting chief executive for four weeks, following the departure of Wayne Jack, who finished up today.

Mr Taylor returns to Napier City Council after retiring from NCC in 2013, having served 20 years in the chief executive role. More recently he was the acting chief executive for Hastings District Council while they undertook the recruitment process for their new chief executive.

“Appointing Mr Taylor to hold the fort whilst we search for an interim chief executive was the logical choice,” says Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise.

“He has a sound understanding of local government generally, as well as councils in the region, and the Council is looking forward to working with him,” she says.

The council says the process of recruiting a new chief executive can take several months, so the next step will be to identify and appoint an Interim chief executive to follow on from Mr Taylor for the full recruitment period.

Alongside this, the council will be undertaking the appointment of a recruitment agency, for the recruitment of the permanent role.
