‘Go Orange for Cranford’ in March

Hawke’s Bay’s local hospice, Cranford, is asking people to show support for their 2020 Annual Appeal this month.

Workplaces, schools and community groups are invited to “Go Orange for Cranford” and fundraise for them. This could be through holding a mufti day wearing their best orange outfit, hosting a morning tea with friends, whānau and colleagues, or inviting customers to donate a dollar at the till.

“Together, we can give people the chance to treasure every moment,” says Sheena Revington, Cranford Hospice’s Marketing and Fundraising Manager.

“This year we need to fundraise more than $3 million to ensure our services remain at no cost to our patients, families and whānau, and that’s why we need people to show their support for Cranford Hospice during this Appeal.”

When reflecting on the care that he has received, Dene – one of Cranford Hospice’s patients – says: “When it boils down to it, it’s not knowing that’s scary. But the beauty of Cranford is knowing that with their help, you can hopefully go back into your own home and environment. It’s good to know what services are available, like counselling when the family members need it, and an occupational therapist who comes in with equipment to help us at home. These are things you don’t usually ask for, because you don’t know you need it. It’s good to know Cranford are there when you need them.”

Every day, Cranford Hospice supports over 150 husbands and wives, sons and daughters, friends, whānau, neighbours and colleagues. They do this by providing the best possible palliative care, education and advice to the people of Hawke’s Bay. The youngest person they’re caring for is one year old and the oldest is 101.

The month will conclude with Cranford’s annual street appeal from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th March. Nearly 400 volunteers will be donning orange aprons and holding collection buckets on the streets of Hawke’s Bay. Please show your support by popping a donation in their bucket – every dollar really does count!
