Greendale's Wyllie claims two titles in Bay Seniors tennis

Hawke's Bay's No 1 women's tennis player Jane Wyllie last weekend sent a signal to those young guns planning on dethroning her this summer ... they will have a tough time.

Wyllie, 50, was the Bay's most successful player in the annual Hawke's Bay Seniors tournament which attracted 165 players from throughout the North Island to the Hawke's Bay Lawn club in Napier. Men's and women's doubles matches were played on Saturday and mixed doubles on Sunday.

The winner of two gold medals and one silver medal at the Hamilton-hosted National Seniors tournament in February, Wyllie, combined with Greendale clubmate Norma Ching to win the women's division one doubles title. They beat the Wellington pair of Tania Martin and Margaret Kronfeld in their final.

On Sunday Wyllie and Greendale clubmate Russell Broughton beat Martin and Wellington's Glenn Japeth in the division one mixed doubles final.

Another of the Bay's multiple champions at National Seniors level, Hastings professional coach Craig Giddy, combined with Kapi Mana's Bruce Hollybone to win the men's division one doubles title. They beat Broughton and Havelock North's Andrew Reynolds in their final.
