Hastings Civic Honours Awards recipients announced

The annual Civic Honours Awards ceremony was held at Functions on Hastings Friday night, recognising those who have gone above and beyond in their contribution to the Hastings community.

The event was held adjusted to be in line with Level 2 COVID-19 restrictions, which enabled the celebration of 11 individuals and four groups who received this year’s awards.

This year for the first time a Mayoral Award was included, awarded to Patton Engineering for its work in supporting the district’s young people into employment through promoting and supporting trades training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Hastings mayor Sandra Hazlehurst said the awards were a 32-year tradition and thanked the recipients for their dedication, passion and hard work.

“A Hastings Civic Honour is the highest award our community can bestow upon a person and I am incredibly proud and grateful for the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate this year’s deserving recipients.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has made us realise, more than ever, the importance of our hard working volunteers, who through their kindness and commitment to others have made and continue to make a positive difference to the wellbeing of our people and our beautiful Hastings district.

“They have inspired others to also contribute and become community leaders and we have all felt the enormous sense of fulfilment they get from giving.”
