Local angler hooks 'fish of a lifetime'.

Local man Jesse Sutton landed a large Broadbill Swordfish mid-afternoon Wednesday.

Hooked at around 2pm in 450 metres of water, the team of Jesse, his father Dave Sutton and skipper Chris Bailey, landed the fish in a relatively short 45min stretch.

"We've been aiming to get one for a while, we've done multiple swordfish drops before.

"It was a team effort, we all worked together to get this fish. Got it on the boat eventually, it was pretty heavy but we managed to pull him in.

"Not many people in Hawke's Bay have ever caught one." said Jesse.

Tipping the scales at 188.8kgs, Jesse describes his catch as the 'fish of a lifetime'.

"Broadbills, they're out there all the time, but they're really hard to get" said Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club president, Neil Price.

"Its probably only the third one that's been across our scales in the club's history."
