Manawatu visitors add spice to Bay indoor bowls events

Two highly sought after titles on the Hawke's Bay indoor bowls scene were decided in Napier at the weekend.

On Saturday 12 teams chased the Napier Open Championship pairs title. Manawatu's Jason and Danny Moore made the trip east worthwhile with a 7-5 victory against long-serving Hawke's Bay representatives David Vesty and Glenis Cohen in the final.

In their respective semifinals the Moores beat Hawke's Bay's Stephen Clinch and Carol Green 9-6 and Vesty and Cohen beat another Bay combination of Bob Jeffares and Noeline Gardner 16-5.

On Sunday eight teams contested the Hawke's Bay Open Championship fours title. In a tight final the Hawke's Bay quartet of Bruce Dalton, Darryl LeClaire, Debbie Viggers and Gardner beat the composite team of Jason Moore, Mark and Mike Appleby and Danny Moore 11-7.

The respective semifinals saw Dalton's team pip another Bay quartet of Clinch, Phil Brown, Green and Dora Warren 11-9 and Moore's team beat another composite team of Michael Brown, Tony Giffins, Cohen and Linda Marshall 15-5.

Hawke's Bay's closed championship singles will be played in Napier this Saturday.
