Bay bus driver shortage forces company to bring in staff from other regions

A public transport driver shortage in Hawke's Bay has forced bus operator Go Bus to bring in staff from other regions.

Due to a shortage of permanent drivers, Go Bus have been drafting in spare drivers from other regions to help ensure that the goBay public bus services across Napier and Hastings operate to the timetable.

The goBay service is contracted out by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and the council says the driver shortage is not unique to Hawke’s Bay, but is being felt in other regions also.

"We believe there is a national shortage of bus drivers, as well as here in Hawke's Bay," says the regional council’s transport coordinator, Megan Welsby.

The council says anyone interested in becoming a goBay bus driver should contact Go Bus Transport direct on hawkesbay@gobus.co.nz or phone 06 878 9250.
