Calvary Chapel Church opens doors in Hawke’s Bay
A new way of worshipping and connecting with God has arrived in Hawke’s Bay with the establishment of Calvary Chapel Church, Hastings.
The journey to Hawke’s Bay has been a long one, for Pastor Eric Flores, who has Aztec heritage and hails from California USA. He was most recently involved with Calvary Chapel Church in Whangarei.
“I am excited to lead Calvary Chapel Church in Hawke’s Bay and really getting to know the people of Hastings. Our very first service is this weekend and our team is looking forward to sharing fellowship and our unique way of worship."
Pastor Eric says Hastings is their eighth chapel in New Zealand, with other locations in Auckland, Wellington, Whangarei, Christchurch, Hamilton, Waimate, and Mount Maunganui.
"We couldn’t be happier to be starting our journey in Hawke’s Bay. We’re inviting anyone who is curious about Christianity and wants to know about Jesus, or who is looking for a different way of connecting, to come along.
“Calvary Chapel Church is different. We established in the 1960s and our first worshippers were hippies and surfers. A little of that ethos carries into our services today. We’re non-denominational and have a very casual relaxed environment, with lots of live music, spirit-filled worship and genuinely friendly people.”
Pastor Eric has been with Calvary Chapel Church since May 1997. He has been preaching the gospel, teaching the Bible, and serving in ministry since October 1999.
He graduated from Calvary Chapel Bible College in May 2002 and has had the privilege and honour to serve people in the name of Jesus in different capacities for more than two decades.
“I am so looking forward to the future. I have been in Hawke’s Bay for two months, getting ready. My heart has started to get big and grow for the local people, and I can hardly wait to welcome everyone on Sunday.
“We have a large contingent of Calvary Chapel people travelling from other regions to help us celebrate. It’s going to be awesome.”
