Car crash leaves 1000 homes briefly without power

Up to 1000 homes in Maraenui were without power after a car crashed into a power pole early this morning.

Police were called to the crash on Percy Spiller Avenue near Charles Corner Crescent at 7.19am.

"A power pole has been hit and has fallen. The road at the time was blocked and traffic management was requested," police said.

A Unison spokesperson said initially about 1000 homes and businesses were affected.

"Unison’s crews were on site quickly to assess the damage and start repairs. The majority were restored within half an hour. All customers were restored earlier this afternoon."
