Covid-19: 22 new community cases reported ahead of Cabinet's alert level decision

Just hours away from the Government's announcement on whether there will be alert level changes, the Ministry of Health has reported 22 new cases of Covid-19 in the community.

The new cases were released in a statement and are all in Auckland. Three of today's cases were announced in Whakatīwai on Sunday evening.

Five of today's cases are under investigation to establish a link to the current outbreak.

The total number of people with the virus in this outbreak is now 1071, made up of 1051 in Auckland and Whakatīwai (within the Counties Mānakau District Health Board catchment) and 17 in Wellington.

Now, 694 of these people have recovered.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Director General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield will announce any alert level changes at 4pm from Parliament.

Today is Auckland's 33rd day in lockdown since level 4 was declared at 11.59pm on August 17. The rest of the country is currently in Alert Level 2.
