Covid-19: 251 new Hawke's Bay cases

Hawke's Bay has 251 new community cases, and 12 people in hospital, the Ministry of Health has reported. 

The region's cases are among 7829 new community cases around the country. 

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said there were also 15 virus-related deaths and 395 people in hospital, including eight in ICU.

The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 5808 - last Wednesday it was 4873.

The latest deaths occurred within the past nine days.

They take the total number of publicly reported deaths with Covid-19 to 1503 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12. 

"Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; three were from the Auckland region, one was from Waikato, one was from Lakes, two were from Bay of Plenty, two were from Taranaki, one was from the Wellington region, one was from Nelson Marlborough, one was from Canterbury, one was from West Coast, and two were from the Southern region.

"One person was in their twenties, one was in their fifties, five were in their 70s, three were in their 80s and five were over 90. Of these people, six were male and nine were female."
