Covid-19: 35 new community cases

There are 35 new cases of Covid-19 in the community - 18 in Auckland, 13 in Bay of Plenty, two in Rotorua and one each in Waikato and Taupō.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said there are now 37 people with the coronavirus in hospital, including three in intensive care.

The Ministry said a Rotorua based MIQ worker who tested positive on Wednesday is currently in isolation. It is currently investigating to find out if this infection came from either the community or the facility, but said the nature of the case's work meant they did not normally have direct contact with returnees.

The worker is fully vaccinated and up-to-date with regular testing. Further genome testing results are due later today.

There are 24 new cases at the border. They arrived in New Zealand from the UK, Qatar, Pakistan, UAE, USA, Australia, Fiji, Singapore, India and Spain.
