Covid-19: Seven new community cases in Hawke's Bay

Hawke's Bay's total number of current Covid-19 cases has risen to 39, with seven new cases reported today.

Of these cases, five are linked to known cases, and two are still under investigation.

Hawke's Bay District Health Board Medical Officer of Health Dr Rachel Eyre says as Covid-19 cases increase, it is "very important" for people to follow public health advice and isolate while awaiting test results to limit the spread of the infection in our community.

Dr Eyre says anyone with cold and flu-like symptoms, no matter how mild and even if they were vaccinated, need to get tested.

“More locations of interest will be reported on the Ministry’s website as investigations continue.”

The Hawkes Bay Polo Club, Waipatu has been named as a location of interest.

People who were at the club between 1.30pm on Wednesday, January 26 and 5.30pm on Sunday, January 30 must self-monitor for Covid-19 symptoms for 10 days after they were exposed. If symptoms develop, get a test and stay at home until you get a negative test result.

Rows on an existing flight and a new flight have also been added to the list.

Flight NZ8029 Auckland to Napier, January 27, 5.45pm to 7pm. Passengers on this flight are close contacts if they were seated in rows 7,8,9,10 or 11. Self-isolate, test immediately and on day five after you were exposed. Further isolation and testing requirements will be provided by Public Health.

Flight NZ5002 Napier to Auckland, January 26, 6.15am to 7.20am. Passengers on this flight are close contacts if they were seated in rows 6,7,8,9, or 10. Self-isolate, test immediately and on day 5 after you were exposed. Further isolation and testing requirements will be provided by Public Health.

Dr Eyre said vaccination was the best protection against Covid-19. Additionally, people eligible for their booster vaccination should get this done for an added layer of protection.

From Friday people aged 18 or older can get their Covid-19 booster three months after completing their primary course.

“People vaccinated against Covid-19 are far less likely to need hospital care if they get the virus.”
