Crews respond to fire on Te Mata Peak

Firefighters are responding to a significant fire on the summit of Te Mata Peak. 

Emergency services were called just after 8.30pm this evening.

Fire and Emergency Hawke's Bay Assistant Commander Bruce Botherway said crews from Havelock North, Hastings and Heretaunga brigades are responding.

"We have had multiple 111 calls and FENZ first arriving crews transmitted a 2nd Alarm requesting further resources."

They are asking the public to keep away from area to allow emergency vechiles to access Te Mata Peak Rd safely.

"Our crews work hard throught out the year to keep the community safe and FENZ would ask the public to remain vigilant and safe while participating in this weekends fireworks celebrations"

He said it is too early to know the cause.
