Digging the dirt for future generations
The Esk River area is thousands of trees closer to its natural habitat following planting on the weekend.
More than 100 community members and Pan Pac staff gathered on Saturday to plant 2,500 native plants along the Esk River as part of a long-term regeneration project for the area.
The planting day was organised by Pan Pac and Te Huka Waiohinganga (Esk River) Care Group. The plan is for further community planting days, with future seedlings to be provided by a community nursery that has been established with funding through the Pan Pac Environmental Trust.
The planting days and nursery are projects that support Pan Pac’s sustainability goals, says Tony Clifford, Managing Director, Pan Pac, who joined in the planting.
“Pan Pac is invested in the environment and the community in which we operate,” said Clifford. “These projects provide a great opportunity to restore natural habitats for our future generations.”
