Firefighters extinguish large house fire near Tangoio
Firefighters have managed to quell a large house fire that spread to more than 100 square metres of woodland near Tangoio.
Emergency services were called to the property on Waikoau Road, Tangoio, about 10.41am this morning.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said the fire was "well-involved" when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Water tankers from Napier, Bayview and Heretaunga, as well as further rural appliances, and a helicopter, were sent to the scene.
At its biggest, the fire had spread into 100 square metres of woodland.
However, several hours later they had managed to extinguish the fire.
A spokeswoman said the house has been "badly damaged" and is "pretty much down on the ground".
Nobody was inside the house when fire crews arrived.
