Hastings’ children to be fed sponsored lunches at Elim OSCAR holiday programme

Children attending the mid-year holiday programme at ElimKids OSCAR in Hastings will be fed wholesome lunches sponsored by Elim Christian Church.

ElimKids OSCAR, which is run from the Hastings Elim Christian Church at 405 Victoria Street in Parkvale, is expecting more than one hundred children to attend the programme from today.

OSCAR Business Manager Sarah Gray says that a number of fun activities have been planned for the two-week programme and the sponsored lunches will ensure the children will be able to concentrate on having fun.

“We are excited to be able to provide the children with these meals and it takes some pressure off parents who won’t have to pack lunches for them.”

On the weekly menu are three packed-style lunches and two hot options. The children will be able to enjoy mince chow mein, sausages, wraps, burgers, and sandwiches as well as Shepherd’s Pie, filled rolls, pasta bake, pita pockets and bento-style bowl.

“These delicious options will be supplemented with yoghurt and fruit,” Mrs Gray says.

Hastings Elim Christian Church’s Senior Pastor Paul Macpherson says the church sees its role as reaching out to the children of Hastings and their families.

“It is our calling to serve the Hastings community and what better way to do that than to care for the children of our city.”

“ElimKids is an important part of our church, and we are committed to continuing with our term-care and holiday programmes in the future.”

Mrs Gray says her team is dedicated to providing a safe haven for children, where parents can feel confident that they are well taken care of and well-fed.

“A fed child is a happy child, so thank you Hastings Elim Christian Church for sponsoring lunch for our children these holidays.”

The ElimKids OSCAR Holiday Programme operates from 7.15am to 5.30pm weekdays from 12-23 July.
