Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust to look at Unison ownership review process

Following the 2023 ownership review of Unison, the Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust committed to reviewing its process and making amendments where needed.

“The Trust has focused on the privacy breach that arose from public submissions to the ownership review,” Trust Chair Diana Kirton says.

“Once the breach was confirmed, the Trust immediately informed the Privacy Commissioner and provided all the necessary information required for the investigation. This also included the proposed actions the Trust would put in place to avoid any future breach.”

The Trust will revise its processes for any future ownership review to anonymise submissions before being made public, to comply with privacy legislation.  It will also look to improve and modernise the submission process, where possible.

“We have learned from this experience and will ensure that our future processes meet the standards that the legislation requires and that our power consumers expect,” says Kirton.

The Privacy Commission has now recorded the changes and closed the notification file.
