Hawke's Bay's local MPs throw all behind annual Blanket Drive

Hawke's Bay's local MPs are throwing their all behind an annual blanket drive and encouraging people to donate good, clean quality used blankets and bedding into their Hastings and Napier electorate offices.

First started by MP for Napier Stuart Nash last year, the blanket drive is run together with Christian Lovelink, a volunteer charity organisation that collects and delivers household goods including beds, linen and furniture to people in need across Hawke’s Bay.

MP for Tukituki Anna Lorck says the blanket drive is a very worthy cause for people to get behind that is helping make a real difference for people in our local communities, especially as winter approaches.

Christian Lovelink’s operation’s manager Ian Jones said there has been a big increase in demand particularly in Hastings, with the organisation helping 77 families during the past three months.

“Blankets are one item that we are always getting requests for, they go out regularly and so far we’ve already given out over 200 blankets this year.

“We have a team of 40 volunteers who are putting in nearly 6000 hours each year. As well as helping people moving from transitional housing, our biggest referring agency is HB’s Child Healthy Team,” he said.

The Blanket Drive runs from today through to Friday, May 7. Blankets can be dropped into the Tukituki electorate office, 129 Queen Street East, Hastings or the Napier electorate office, 155A
Tennyson Street, Napier South.
