Heretaunga Women’s Centre Launches SuperGrans Programme

A free programme which supports women to develop life skills through one-on-one mentoring and workshops is now being offered by Heretaunga Women's Centre.

SuperGrans Heretaunga launches on February 25 and will help empower women to gain the knowledge and skills to improve their daily lives, both personally and within their family and whānau.

Centre Manager Amanda Meynell believes the programme is long overdue and very much needed.

“We saw a need in our community with women coming to the Centre requiring support but not requiring agency interventions or counselling but just good support around life skills.

"Mentors are women of all ages who will walk alongside other women, supporting them to develop a range of different skills, including cooking healthy meals on a budget, gardening, growing food, CV writing, applying for jobs, budgeting, sewing and much more," she said.

SuperGran volunteers can be any age and do not have to be grandmothers. "They are women in our community that have skills that they would like to share what they know with women," Meynell said.

Women can self-refer to the programme or be referred by other organisations and agencies. Each woman referred meets with the Heretaunga Women’s Centre SuperGrans coordinator to discuss and identify what they need and what goals they want to set.

The programme is affiliated under the national organisation of SuperGrans Aotearoa.
