Hospital and schools put in lockdown after attempted armed theft in Hastings

Police are still searching for an offender after an armed theft sent several Hastings schools and Hawke's Bay Hospital into lockdown earlier today.

Police were called to the attempted armed theft at Kiwi Street Foodmarket on Kiwi St, Camberley at about 11.29am this morning.

A police spokeswoman said cordons were in place and three schools were briefly in lockdown.

"Police are conducting area searches to locate the person involved," she said.

Heretaunga Intermediate and Camberley School confirmed students and staff had been put into lockdown.

A Hawke's Bay District Health Board spokeswoman said Hawke’s Bay Hospital was briefly put in lockdown for 15 minutes, as a precautionary measure.

The lockdown has now been lifted.
