Man in hospital with serious injuries after Flaxmere shooting

A man has taken to hospital with serious injuries and a lockdown at a nearby school has been lifted after a shooting in Flaxmere this afternoon.

St John Ambulance said they transported a person with serious injuries to Hawke’s Bay Hospital following the incident.

Police and ambulance were called to the area, near Henderson Rd and Whitby Cres, shortly after 2pm.

Flaxmere Primary School was in lockdown as a safety precaution following the shooting.

Shortly after 3pm the school said students could be picked up from Henderson Road.

A large number of family members were waiting outside the school.

Police said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.

Just before 3.30pm they said cordons remained in place and members of the public were advised to avoid the area.

Police said they wanted to thank the school, parents of the children and the community for their patience.
