EIT held an Info Day yesterday to showcase the wide variety of programmes it has available on its Hawke’s Bay campus in Taradale. 

Scores of prospective learners attended, including many Years 11-13 students who gave up precious holiday time to get a taste of what it would be like to study everything from Creative Arts to Computing.

Angela Botha, - Liaison and Engagement Team Leader, said it was a huge success with a steady stream of people throughout the day.

“We had people waiting at 8am even though we didn’t open until 9am so it was a very successful day.”

Prospective learners received information packs on programmes of interest and were given a guided tour by student ambassadors – current EIT learners, before speaking to programme
staff.

“Where possible we try and pair them with a student ambassador from that programme so that they can talk about the course and what they enjoy about being a leaner at EIT.”

There are more than 180 certificate, degree and post graduate programmes available for full or part-time study.

She said there had been “heaps of interest” in the creative programmes at EIT’s IDEAschool, as well as mental health and addiction courses as part of the Social Work programme.

Gwenda Kevern, Head of School - Education and Social Sciences, says they are thrilled to have so much interest in the Social Work programme.

The Info Day is held three times a year – January, June and mid-October – and is a great opportunity for potential students interested in study to explore what EIT has to
offer, Angela says.

This time, EIT partnered with Ministry of Social Development, StudyLink and Careers New Zealand who were on hand to provide information and support. Younited EIT Student Association also provided a free sausage sizzle.

“It is a new relationship that we have developed, and it is really important, I think, for students that come in asking about scholarships and assistance to be able to access that information
directly,” Angela says.

StudyLink Liaison Officer Preston Tatana said they had people interested in finding out more about what financial support they offer including with the student allowance and loan.

He said they had different enquiries ranging from teenagers coming out of high school to those already in employment but wanting a change of career.
