Morning magnitude 4.3 quake wakes up Hawke's Bay.

An earthquake quake measuring 4.3 has woken Hawke's Bay this morning.

The quake, located 10 km south-west of Hastings, occurred at 6.35am.

Thousands of people have reported feeling the tremor which was 35km deep. 

Geonet said the shaking was light, close to the epicentre. 

It said the tremor was likely felt in Dannevirke, Feilding, Hastings, Hunterville, Napier, Pongaroa, Porangahau, Taihape, Turangi, Waipukurau, Wairoa, and surrounding localities. 

More than 3600 people reported feeling the tremor.

It was proceeded by four earthquakes centred within 5km of Pōrangahau in 12 hours.

The first was felt at 6.56pm last night and measured 3.0 and at a depth of 13km. Just 22 minutes later, a slightly bigger quake hit the area, measuring 4.2 and at a depth of 15km. 

Two weak quakes also hit at 11.05pm and 6.32am, measuring 2.3 and 2.4 respectively. They were 13km to 15km deep.
