Napier's newest millionaire to make dream of building a house a reality

Winning $1 million will enable a Napier couple to make their dreams of building a house a reality. But first, they plan to be "sensible" and pay off their mortgage.

In response to questions by Hawke's Bay App, the man, who did not wish to be identified, said it had felt like a "daydream" ever since he and his wife found out they had won $1 million with Lotto First Division in Wednesday night's live Lotto draw.

The winning ticket was sold at Greenmeadows New World, at the Lotto shop they have been buying their tickets from for years.

"We usually keep our Lotto tickets on top of the fridge. But when my wife heard someone in town had won and the winning ticket had been sold at our local Lotto counter, she went and hid our ticket under the fruit bowl. She must have had a feeling we had the winning ticket," the winner said.

"Now that the news has sunk in a bit, we've been sleeping well, and are trying to get on with life as normally as possible."
