New shipping line brings direct Trans-Tasman service to Napier Port

Shipping options have expanded for Hawke’s Bay’s exporters and importers with the arrival of a new shipping line offering a direct service to Australia calling at Napier Port.

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has added Napier Port to its Asia-Oceania ‘Third Loop’ New Zealand to Australia shipping route.

The shipping line offers a Trans-Tasman service for both dry and refrigerated cargo, such as produce, from Napier, Auckland and Lyttelton to Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, and on to ports throughout Asia.

Napier Port Chief Executive Todd Dawson said he was delighted to welcome ZIM to Napier Port.

"We’re very pleased that the shipping options for Hawke’s Bay’s exporters have increased with this new direct trans-Tasman shipping service.

"Cargo owners will soon have even more shipping and supply chain options, access to larger vessels coming to New Zealand and greater flexibility and berth availability on our other five wharves when our new 350m wharf opens for business later this year."

The first load of containers using the new ZIM shipping service arrived at Napier Port on Saturday, January 15. The frequency of the three-weekly service is expected to increase with demand.
