Pedestrian critically injured in Waipukurau crash
A significant stretch of road in Waipukurau is closed following a serious crash between a pedestrian and a truck this morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash near the intersection of Herbert St and Pōrangahau Rd in central Waipukurau about 11.20am.
The road is closed between Russell St and Northumberland St, and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says the road is likely to remain closed for several hours, while the Serious Crash Unit conducts their investigation.
A police spokeswoman said motorists are asked to avoid the area and follow directions by emergency services on-site for an alternate route.
A St. John Ambulance spokesman says they are transporting a serious injury patient to Hawke's Bay Hospital by helicopter.
