Pedestrian forces freight train to stop in central Hastings
A freight train had to come to an emergency stop in Hastings after a person was seen in the rail corridor.
Police were notified a train had stopped at 14.49 on Queen Street West yesterday afternoon.
"A person had allegedly been seen on the tracks, but walked off before the train approached," a police spokeswoman said.
While there were no injuries, the train was delayed for around 20 minutes.
A KiwiRail spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, incidents like this do happen from time to time".
"The incident underlines that it is both dangerous and illegal in be in the rail corridor without authorisation."
