Police Eagle helicopter assists in arrest of Napier man in Auckland

A Napier man has been arrested in Auckland during the early hours of this morning after allegedly attempting to break into vehicles in the Papatoetoe area. 

Police said they received multiple calls from the public at about 1.30pm. 

"Our Police helicopter ‘Eagle’ was deployed to the area and observed a man allegedly running through several properties and at one point allegedly breaking into the front door of a residential address.

"While co-ordinating Police units on the ground and relaying information back to our communications centre, Eagle continued to observe the man as he allegedly tried to stop motorists in an attempt to get into their vehicles," a police spokesperson said. 

The Eagle crew were able to direct Police officers to the man’s location where he was arrested.

The man will be appearing in court on numerous charges including burglary and assaults Police, the spokesperson said.
