Reminder to get Hastings Civic Award nominations in

Hastings District Council says nominations are rolling in for this year’s Civic Honours Awards and people are encouraged to keep putting forward deserving contenders before entries close.

The closing date for nominations is March 26, after which time the council’s Civic Awards subcommittee will go through the judging process before the awards ceremony on June 26.

The awards, which have been held for the last 30 years, fall into several categories: Arts and Culture, Health and Welfare, Sport and Recreation, Education and Youth, New Volunteer and Youth Volunteer.

Past recipients have included volunteers from organisations ranging from rural fire forces to seniors groups, music societies, health services, community gardens and patrols, and surf clubs.

Individuals working with children, seniors, sportspeople, and people with disabilities have also been recognised.

Hastings mayor Sandra Hazlehurst says the volunteers who work in many different sectors of the community deserve to be recognised.

“Their tireless efforts are invaluable, contributing to the wellbeing of our community.

“These people are often unsung heroes and we encourage you to help us celebrate all that they do for us.”

Forms are available from the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere libraries, from the council’s Service Centre in Lyndon Road, or download or complete a form on the Civic Awards page of the Hastings District Council website, www.hdc.govt.nz.
