Road reopened following serious crash, Marewa

One person was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a critical condition following a crash in Napier this afternoon. 

Emergency services were called to the crash, involving two vehicles, at the intersection of Douglas McLean Avenue and Herrick Street, Marewa, at about 5.10pm. 

Initial indications were that one person is seriously injured, police said at the time. 

The road was initially closed and motorists were advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route.

However, just after 9pm this evening, a police spokeswoman said the road is now open and one person who was initially transported to hospital in a critical condition is now awake and talking with minor injuries.

Police were called to the crash about 3.45pm.

While there were no reports of injury, the road was down to one lane until the vehicle was cleared, a police spokeswoman said.
