Search on for missing fisherman in Hawke Bay
A search is underway off the coast of Hawke’s Bay for a fisherman who was reported overboard from a fishing vessel last night.
Police said in a statement this morning that Maritime NZ’s Rescue Coordination Centre is coordinating the search, which is being assisted by rescue helicopter services from Auckland, Gisborne and Hastings, Napier Coast Guard and other vessels in the area.
An NZDF NH90 is now in the area and assisting with the search.
Coastguard Hawke's Bay Skipper Henry van Tuel said that the search was taking place roughly 10km off Waimarama in Hawke Bay.
"It's overcast with a drizzle out here, but the sea is quite flat."
