Several arrested after public identify suspicious activity in Hawke's Bay

Suspicious activity noticed by members of the public has led to a number of arrests in Hawke's Bay this week.

Police say through information received they have been able to prevent further criminal activity from occurring in the district and hold offenders to account.

"We rely on the public to be our eyes and ears and ask anyone who sees any suspicious activity to report it to us," a police spokesperson said.

What was initially reported as two people acting suspiciously, ended in two arrests in the region this morning.

A local security company noticed two people acting suspicious in the Onekawa area of Napier and alerted police.

Napier staff attended and arrested a 39-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. The man is due to appear in Napier District Court today in relation to burglary.

In another incident this morning, Hastings police were alerted to a burglary on Gordon Road, and two people were seen leaving in a vehicle.

The vehicle was located nearby and stopped by police a short time later where a number of stolen food items were found in the boot of the vehicle.

Two people have been charged with burglary and will be appearing in the Hastings District Court today.

Yesterday, police received multiple reports of a motorist driving erratically on the Napier-Hastings Expressway around 5.30pm.

The vehicle was observed crossing the centre line and hitting the safety barrier.

"Police responded and were, fortunately, able to locate the vehicle before any further damage was caused or injury to the driver or other motorists," the spokesperson said.

The driver was spoken to and forbidden to drive for the next 12 hours.

"Police would like to thank all members of the public who reported these incidents across Hawke's Bay over the past few days."

"A key focus for police is preventing crime from happening in the first place."
