Sir Rod Stewart "absolutely gutted" to cancel Hawke's Bay concerts

Ongoing travel restrictions and international border closures into New Zealand have forced Sir Rod Stewart to cancel his upcoming concerts at Napier's Mission Estate Winery.

The shows, due to be held on April 9 and 10, were part of Sir Rod's New Zealand and Australia The Hits! 2022 tour, which had been postponed for nearly 18 months in August 2020, following the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. He was also due to perform at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium on April 6.

In a statement, Mission Estate said it was "with regret" they had to announce the cancellation.

"Mission Concert Management apologises to any Concert Club Members who are inconvenienced by the cancelled concerts and thank you for your support and understanding during these unprecedented circumstances."

Stewart said he was "absolutely gutted with disappointment".

"My thoughts are with all your families at this difficult time as we come out of the joyous and hopefully safe holiday season and I look forward to returning to New Zealand as soon as the health situation permits."

"When I do eventually get there we'll have the party to end all parties. Guaranteed!"
