Six Hawke's Bay prison inmates climb to roof of youth unit
A group of inmates have climbed onto the roof of the Youth Unit at Hawke's Bay Regional Prison.
Department of Corrections’ Lower North regional commissioner Liz Hawthorn said six prisoners made it onto the roof about 2.30pm this afternoon.
"Staff responded immediately to contain the incident and are currently talking to the prisoners," she said.
All other prisoners in the Youth Unit have been safely secured.
"The area is within the secure perimeter of the prison’s unit. There is no threat to the wider security of the prison and no threat to public safety."
