Te Wero Tournament's 50th Anniversary provides much need respite for Hawke's Bay community.

This year marked the 50th Anniversary of the Te Wero Competition.

Encompassing Rugby and Netball, the history of the tournament stems from the 28th Maori Battalion which carried Te Wero, a Taiaha, during the Second World War, to salute their dead and greet former enemies.

Eventually making the trip home, it was brought back to be played for in a tournament to celebrate peace.
