Two-year-old boy rescued after near-drowning in Napier dies in Hospital

A two-year-old boy who was rescued after a near-drowning at the Napier Aquatic Centre has died.

Police confirmed this morning that the young child died of their injuries on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the incident at about 11.56am on Saturday. 

The toddler was initially transported to Hastings Hospital with critical injuries, before being transported to Starship Hospital where they later died.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
