Unusual smell in cabin forces evacuation of Air New Zealand plane

An "unusual smell" in the cabin of an Air New Zealand plane sparked the evacuation of passengers at Hawke's Bay Airport late last night.

The plane, Air New Zealand flight NZ5027 from Auckland to Napier, landed safely at Hawke’s Bay Airport on Tuesday night.

The flight landed just after 8.10pm and passengers were immediately disembarked, an Air New Zealand spokeswoman said.

Emergency services met the aircraft as a precaution due to reports of an unusual smell in the cabin, she said.

Police confirmed they were notified at 8:12 last night and were only briefly in attendance, in support of FENZ.
