Watch Live: Announcement on Government's traffic light system

The Wairoa District will shift into "red" when the country moves into the new traffic light system on Friday, while the rest of Hawke's Bay will shift into "orange".

Cabinet will review settings and provide an update on Monday, December 13. The next update by Ministers will be on Monday, January 17, and will continue on a fortnightly basis.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said vaccination rates were one of the key considerations under the traffic light levels. Other considerations were capacity of the health and disability system, covid transmission, cases, and the impact of the virus on vulnerable populations.

Wairoa will join Northland, Auckland, Taupō and Rotorua Lakes Districts, Kawerau, Whakatane, Ōpōtiki Districts, Gisborne District, Rangitikei, Whanganui and Ruapehu Districts at red. The rest of the North Island and the whole of the South Island will move in at orange.
