Water restrictions lifted in CHB

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council has lifted water restrictions for residents connected to town water supplies in Waipawa, Waipukurau, Otane, Takapau and Porongahau effective immediately.

The council has lifted the water restrictions following recent rainfall in the district, cooler temperatures and a drop in demand for water.

In a statement, the council thanked residents for their patience and efforts to save water while the restrictions were in place.

While the restrictions were now lifted, the council was encouraging residents to think about ways water could be conserved in their homes and workplaces.

Top 5 water conservation tips

  1. Wait until you can do full loads before you wash dishes or use the washing machine.
  2. Don’t run the water when brushing your teeth.
  3. For cool drinking water, fill a jug and keep it in the fridge. Running water to cool it down can waste 10 litres a minute.
  4. For lawns, apply the ‘step test’ – if grass springs back after you walk on it, it doesn’t need watering.
  5. If your toilet has a dual flush button, use the half flush.
