Youth arrested after police spikes bring escapade to a halt

A fleeing driver's escapade through Hawke's Bay was brought to a halt by road spikes more than 50km from where it is alleged they stole a vehicle.

Police were first alerted to the youth at about 3.15pm when they received reports that a car had been stolen from an address in Onekawa, Napier.

"The vehicle was driven southwest on State Highway 2 and police used road spikes to bring the vehicle to a halt near Waipawa," a spokeswoman said.

"A youth was arrested and taken into custody. No injuries were reported."
