One person transported to hospital with serious injuries following Awatoto crash.
One person has been transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious injuries following a two vehicle crash in Awatoto.
Emergency services were alerted to a collision between a van and a car at the intersection of SH51 and Waitangi Road, Awatoto around 11:20am this morning.
One driver was removed from a vehicle by the fire brigade, assessed at the scene and transported to hospital in a serious condition by ambulance.
Diversions are in place at the intersections of Awatoto Road and State Highway 51, and at Waitangi Road and SH 51.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
