Poetry prowess celebrated at National Aquarium
Don’t miss out on a chance to be crowned one of Hawke’s Bay’s top poets for 2019.
The National Aquarium of New Zealand, in Napier, is once again hosting the World Oceans Day poetry competition.
The challenge for this year’s writers is to come up with something which sums up this year’s theme – Tiakina o Tatou Moana – Care for our Seas – in the best way possible.
There are five categories; primary, intermediate and secondary schools, adults, and te reo.
Entries close at 4pm on Friday 17 May.
Winners will have the chance to read out their poems in front of an audience at an event to celebrate their achievements on Thursday 6 June, just two days prior to the official World Oceans Day.
Each year around the globe, events are held for World Oceans Day, an opportunity to honour, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared oceans.
The National Aquarium led poetry competition is a creative platform to give a voice to all to share how they feel, and inform others, says Rachel Haydon, Project Lead at the National Aquarium.
“Our oceans are truly magnificent, generating most of the oxygen we breathe, providing food and regulating our climate. We all must ensure that they are healthy for future generations.”
