Puketapu Fair cancelled as wet, windy weekend approaches

The organisers of Sunday’s Puketapu Auction and Fair have cancelled the event as wild weather heads towards the Bay this weekend.

“The weather forecast for the next few days with predicted gale force winds from the south does not favor well for the Puketapu Auction & Fair,” a notice on the event’s website says.

“The organisers are concerned for the safety of the public and the stall holders. With this in mind the event is regrettably cancelled.”

Much of the country is due to receive cold, wet and windy weather this weekend.

In the Bay, showers tomorrow are expected to develop into possibly heavy and thundery rain on Sunday, with strong or even gale-force southerly winds.

Lines company Unison said given extreme weather like that forecast for the weekend could cause havoc on its network, its crews were on stand-by in case there were any power outages.

“In the meantime, make sure you secure outdoor items that could get airborne (such as trampolines, rubbish bins, outdoor furniture or other loose items) to prevent injury or damage,” Unison said.
